Tutor: Els Verbakle Graduation project- Sea Change, Edge of the sea The project deals with the city of Ashdod and its overlapping points with the natural edges correspondingly to changes and urban development along time. The space between city and sea remains outside the city grid, its edges determined by overlapping the sea, ground and city. The weaknesses of the edge as a space empty of urban activity, allows to develop temporary "off grid" events which mediate between city and nature. The project’s essence is the dialogue and constant struggle between the accumulation and breaking point and the nature of the continuous erosion regarding the site as a functional urban space and as a built mass serving a function. The principles behind the growth of the new system are based on the natural elements, the unique scenery which defines the planning conditions, and their reflection of shape and consistency. The buildings inform us of the natural topography. The system must be able to react to uncertainty, while limiting the number of possibilities embodied on site. The project develops a local & regional program and open and building types which can handle changes such as rising water level and sand dune movement. This proposal is a system of anchor points by spreading an infrastructure for temporary activities such as commerce and leisure along the seashore. Dividing the premise by pin points related to an urban context, the proximity to the harbor will serve the tourism industry and other related functions. The proximity to the more urban environment such as the market and the southern point close to the city center will be used for events and leisure time activities such as concerts and community gatherings
