New Building of Tbilisi State University
Area: 7000 m2

Location: Chavchavadze ave. 1/3

The project is located in Tbilisi at 1/3 Chavchavadze Avenue, bordered to the east by Varazi Khevi, and to the south by Chavchavadze Avenue and the first and second buildings of Tbilisi State University. The land plots to the north and west are privately owned. The primary goal in designing the architectural project was to seamlessly integrate the new building with the existing landscape and topography of the site. The area features a distinctive topography, which adds to its unique character. A landscape study revealed that most of the trees could be relocated, providing us with greater flexibility in utilizing the building area and in the design and development of the structure. It was decided to position the new building on the sloping terrain to maximize integration with the existing structures, views, and natural light. At the same time, this approach allowed for the development of the building's height, ensuring that sunlight and views were evenly distributed throughout the interior spaces. To visually blend with the rocky landscape and create a light, airy transition, we incorporated an imitation of rocky stones in the form of cut shapes on the façade. The main section of the building is fully glazed and encased in lightweight aluminum structures, which are wrapped in ventilated panels. To unify the old and new university buildings into a cohesive architectural ensemble, we selected three primary colors that echo the color scheme of the first and second buildings. The building features a cafeteria in the summer recreation area, offering a panoramic view of the city. Additionally, five auditoriums have been arranged, with seating for 80 and 15 students, respectively. Due to the terrain, the inner courtyard is terraced, with its various levels accessible from each floor. The building includes parking for 14 cars and is fully accessible to people with disabilities.
