Location: Abanotubani
Gulo Bath is located in Tbilisi, in the historical Abanotubani Valley, and is a treasure trove of Georgian spa culture. With its domed roofs and traditional architecture, it reflects the rich heritage of the city’s sulfur baths. Working on the interior of the space was an interesting and at the same time responsible challenge, as the renovation carried out in the 90s did not correspond to the building and its historical context. It was of utmost importance for us to preserve the old look, which is expressed by the brick domed ceiling and arches. As you know, the preservation of the sulfur bath in Tbilisi was part of the influence of Eastern culture, which is why we decided to introduce oriental mosaics into the space in combination with the brick domes. This combination is complemented by white marble textures, which evoke associations with the Greco-Roman style. All this together creates an interesting and at the same time harmonious, eclectic environment that blends perfectly with the diverse aesthetics of the city.
