Location: Mestia, Georgia

The structural and architectural design of the building was shaped by its location in the Svaneti region, specifically in Mestia, and its unique surrounding landscape, along with the distinct local architectural style. The design also reflects its intended function as an airport. We aimed for the silhouette of the building to embody the traditional aesthetic typical of the region, which is why we opted for massive perimeter walls. The proposed layout was inspired by the most valuable aspect of the project site—the stunning views of Mestia. This led to the creation of a panoramic vista that integrates the open space of the chosen location. Floor-to-ceiling stained-glass windows, positioned between the walls, along with a stained-glass opening running around the entire perimeter under the roof, and the sloped roof design leading inward, all contribute to the airport's distinctive appearance. The large stained-glass windows on all four sides offer views of Mestia, the remarkable landscape, and the airplane runway, which has become a defining feature of the building. The roof's shape, inspired by the valley's silhouette and mimicking outstretched wings, evokes a sense of flight.
